The Thrill of the Race

The Condors have thriving open and women’s race teams who compete in many local and regional races. Whether you’re an experienced racer, or looking to take your first tentative steps into racing, our teams will be glad to see you.

New Racers

The Condors racers are always glad to assist new racers into the thrilling world of bike racing. Getting into racing can seem daunting, but it’s really good fun once you have the skills.  We run race training and technique sessions ourselves and we also take part in race skills courses run by some of the other local clubs. There are also a number of introductory races to try your skills in.

Once you’re up to speed and enter your first race you’ll have our experienced racers around you to help you prepare and on the day itself. Our race teams work together to command the peloton and help riders start gathering those precious BC points quickly!

All of this makes the Condors a great club at which to take your first steps into racing.  Our race secretaries will be glad to fill you in on all the details.

Experienced Racers

We are always looking to add experienced racers to the Condors teams. We put a lot of emphasis on riding as a team while having fun and ensuring the ambitions of all riders are met:- whether you’re a sprinter, climber or all-rounder, we’d love you to join us in the pink and black. Most of our racers train together during summer chaingangs and on winter weekends – getting out on the rides is the best preparation for racing together later in the year so do please come along if you’re keen on racing.

Oxfordshire Road Race League (ORRL)

The Condors were founding members of the Oxfordshire Road Race League and the league itself is the brainchild of Condor legend Jonny Revis. The league has proved to be a massive success and is a firmly established favourite of local racers. The Condors get a number of confirmed places for every race (10 this year!), and this is a brilliant series in which to give road racing a serious go – sore legs and great fun guaranteed.

British Cycling

The Cowley Road Condors cycling club are fully affiliated with British Cycling.  As a club we actively promote, and strongly recommend, club members take out their own individual memberships with British Cycling. If you decide to race you’ll need a BC racing licence (note: these run from 1st January to 31st December) on top of a ‘Race Silver’ or ‘Race Gold’ BC membership.
