A bit about us

The Condors Women's Committee is back, and bigger than ever, for the 2018 season.  We aim to represent ALL types of women members (and prospective members) from the “Legs Eleven” social riders to the speedier racers (road, time trial, track and cyclocross).

Led by Women's Officer, Becci Curtis, the Women's Committee is dedicated to encouraging, promoting and facilitating women's cycling in the club (and beyond!). We are always on hand to share our knowledge on all aspects of cycling from beginners’ issues such as riding technique and what kit you need, to entering your first competition.

The aims of the Women’s Committee are integrated within the club as a whole, and we are fully supported by the Condors Board. (Did you know that Club President, Cheryl Reid, and Social Secretary, Jo Lankester, founded our annual ‘Ladies Summer Sessions’ in 2015?).

Just taken out your club membership, or thinking of doing so? Condors women want to hear from you! Join our Women’s Forum on Facebook and say “hello”.

I joined the Condors as a total ‘newb’, petrified of clipping in and with no idea how to fix a puncture. I have since led club rides, raced at Silverstone, dabbled with cyclocross, rode my first century and trained as a Level 1 British Cycling Coach. The support and encouragement I have received from the club has been amazing, and being in the company of so many brilliant women has made me think, more and more, “I can do that too”. *Favourite route: the view from Brill Hill never lets you down! *Best known for: trying to get the Condors into yoga, breaking my collarbone on my first ever time trial (and racing Silverstone 6 weeks later)!

Shortly before my 30th birthday I had knee surgery, leaving me with cycling as one of my only viable exercise options. My bike-loving husband bought me my first road bike, and it’s fair to say I haven’t looked back. It was really with the Condors that I got my confidence to race, the club’s support for women’s racing has been amazing and I’ve loved watching the scene grow over the last few years. Being part of the team that won the Silverstone 9-up prize in 2017 was pretty special too! *Favourite route: anywhere with good company is a favourite, even a hungover Milkshed ride :) *Best known for: time trialling and having an ageing greyhound

I’m one of those *gasp* triathletes who decided cycling is my favorite leg. I joined the Condors right after moving to the UK from the States, and the group has been a major part of making Oxford home. You can usually find me at Beeline on the weekends, heading out for some coffee and cake, but my New Year’s resolution is to make it to some races as well. *Favourite route: I’m a sucker for the rolling hills and gorgeous countryside riding through the Cotswolds - especially towards Coln. *Best known for: finding my way to the Condors within a week of moving and being a general chatterbox on rides

Summer Sessions Lead

I came into road cycling by a bit of a backwards route. I’ve been following pro-cycling since I was young, spinning for a few years and I then thought should actually try this whole ‘riding a bike’ thing! I got my road bike in October 2015 and haven’t looked back! I joined the Condors through the Women’s Summer Sessions in 2016. I helped out with the Summer Sessions in 2017 and have done the Club’s ride leader training. I’ve really enjoyed cycling with the Condors, met loads of lovely people and am keen to get more and more people involved in cycling (whatever their pace)! *Favourite route: Cumnor Classic! Good mix of some small hills and some long flats *Best known for: Leading the ‘Legs 11’ (Average pace 11-13mph) rides for people on the slower end of the mph like me :)

Hi! Despite being a keen cyclist before joining the club three years ago, joining the Condors has encouraged me to cycle much further and faster than I would have done alone, as well as having met lots of fascinating people and being inspired to take on new challenges. Highlights have been racing in the Ladies B Team at Silverstone, riding my first century as a team in Ride London and many, many coffee stops. *Favourite route: White Horse at Uffington. *Best known for: chatting non-stop, even on hills, getting (a whole group) lost despite following a route on Garmin ;)
