About us

The Club

The Cowley Road Condors are a vibrant and friendly road cycling club, based in Oxford, close to the city centre. The club strives to be the friendliest sports club in Oxford. We are inclusive, community focused and have a committed, yet fun, outlook towards club riding. Please note we are adults only (18+) but can point you in the right direction for youth riding and racing.

We put a particular focus on expanding our female membership.  Cycling has been a male-dominated sport for too long and we're really keen to help change that.  As well as women specific board positions we've also formed up a Women's committee to work with organisations like British Cycling on their excellent women's cycling initiatives.

The Condors are a non-profit club affiliated with British Cycling (BC) and Cycling Time-Trials (CTT). We host numerous weekly group rides throughout the season for our members, providing a wide variety of group road rides covering all abilities. We’re active in the local race and time-trial scenes, hosting our own events and encouraging cyclist development.

The club are active in the local community; promote Oxford’s cycling culture and provide support to local causes.

Club History

Formed in July 2011, with only four members (following a night at an East Ox pub!), the club now has a membership base of over 300. After purchasing road bikes, the founding members were amazed there was no cycling club in Cowley; a huge catchment area of students, young professionals and of course, cyclists! It was hoped that with the creation of a club it would give opportunity to meet local, like-minded riders and so, with this rough outline of a plan, began the creation of the Cowley Road Condors.

Throughout the following years it’s been great to see new faces turn-up for rides, and fantastic to see members’ confidence and ability grow through riding with the Condors. Our ethos is that you will not be 'dropped' on a club ride and we really are keen to attract to riders of all abilities and ages. Members regularly take part in road racing and TT competitions, and 2014 saw the first running of the Oxfordshire Road Racing league; of which the Condors was one of the founding members.

The Cowley Road Condors have a really bright, pink and black, future!

Club Aims

  • To be a fun, friendly and inclusive cycling club
  • To empower members through training & skills development across multiple cycling disciplines, and promote personal cycling safety
  • To offer people the chance to try new things and stretch themselves, enabling members to reach their goals
  • To promote equal opportunities and be a constant champion for women’s cycling, aiming for a 50:50 male/female split
  • To be an active, visible, participant in the Oxford community, and an advocate of cycling initiatives across the city recognised as valuable to our members

Code of Conduct

We are committed to fostering an inclusive culture which promotes equality, values diversity and maintains an environment in which the rights and dignity of all members of the Condors are respected. We want to promote a positive environment in which people are treated fairly and with respect; and make it clear that harassment is unacceptable.

Our Code of Conduct sets out the minimum standard and applies to all club activities, and participants in any role, expanding on that set out in the British Cycling Equality Policy and Code of Conduct

We are proud supporters of our local charity Helen & Douglas house who do incredible work providing hospice and palliative care to children and young adults, as well as supporting their families and loved ones.
